L’Union des Femmes Architectes de Belgique (ufvab a.s.b.l.), constituée depuis le 5 février 1996, trouve sa source dans l’Union Nationale fondée en 1978, branche belge de l’Union Internationale des Femmes Architectes (UIFA) créée à Paris en 1965.
Partant du constat que dans les écoles d’architecture de Belgique on compte aujourd’hui une proportion équivalente de filles et de garçons et que cependant la proportion de femmes exerçant la profession tombe à 25 ou 30%, l’ufvAb a organisé des tables de réflexion sur la pratique du métier, sur l’évolution des mentalités souvent encore patriarcales dans le domaine, sur les sensibilités d’approches différentes et leurs complémentarités naturelles. Il s’en dégage un choix très net pour un exercice pluridisciplinaire du métier. Ceci expliquerait la faible proportion de femmes exerçant en solo et à contrario leur participation massive dans l’élaboration des projets, de la conception à la réalisation, lors du travail en équipe.
L’ufvAb, dont le siège social est établi à Bruxelles, a pour objectif de mettre en valeur le travail réalisé par ces femmes tout en renforçant le réseau international existant entre celles qui exercent une activité professionnelle dans le secteur de la construction et des métiers d’art.
Reconnue par l’Ordre National des Architectes de Belgique l’ufvAb entretient de nombreuses relations avec d’autres associations professionnelles, de même qu’avec diverses organisations internationales dont notamment l’ARVHA (Association pour la Recherche sur la Ville et l’Habitat)
Afin de promouvoir leurs activités professionnelles et la qualité de la profession d’architecte l’ufvAb organise et soutient de nombreuses activités en Belgique ou à l’étranger: colloque, visites de grands chantiers, voyages d’études, publications, expositions,...

 

De Unie van Vrouwen Architecten van België (ufvAb v.z.w.) bestaat als vzw sinds 5 februari 1996 en is opgericht in 1978 als Belgische tak van de «Union Internationale des Femmes Architectes» (UIFA).
De architectuurscholen tellen tegenwoordig evenveel vrouwelijke als mannelijke studenten maar in de praktijk daalt deze verhouding tot 25 à 30%. De Ufvab wil zich bezinnen over de uitoefening van het beroep en de mentaliteitswijziging in deze nog steeds door mannen gedomineerde wereld.
De Ufvab, met hoofdzetel te Brussel, heeft als doel het werk van vrouwelijke architecten te promoten en een internationaal netwerk uit te bouwen van vrouwen werkzaam in architectuur.
Erkend door de Orde van Architecten, houdt de Ufvab nauwe contacten met andere beroepsverenigingen en internationale organisaties zoals de ARVHA (Association pour la Recherche sur la Ville et l’Habitat).
Om het werk van vrouwelijke architecten in de kijker te plaatsen, organiseert en ondersteunt de ufvAb diverse activiteiten in België of in het buitenland: colloquia, architectuur- en werfbezoeken, studiereizen, publicaties en tentoonstellingen, ...

 

The Union of the Women Architects of Belgium (Ufvab a.s.b.l.) was created on 5 February 1996 and was originated by the National Union, created in 1978, Belgian branch of the International Union of the Women Architects (UIFA) founded in Paris in 1965.
Noticing that nowadays, the schools of architecture in Belgium count an equal number of boys and girls, and yet the proportion of women working as architect falls to 25% or 30%, the Ufvab organised reflexion tables about the practice of the profession, on the evolution of still often patriarchal mentalities, on the different sensitive approaches and on their natural complementarities.
It emerges a clear choice for a multidisciplinary practice of the profession of architect.
This would explaine the low proportion of women working alone and whereas they show an important input in the development of projects from conception to completion, through team work.
The Ufvab, whose head office is based in Brussel, aims at enhancing the work achieved by these women, while reinforcing the current international link between women working in the field of construction and works of art.
Recognised by the Belgium Architects Registration Board (Ordre des Architectes de Belgique), the Ufvab, maintains many contacts with other professional associations as well as with several international organisations such as the ARVHA (Association for the Research on Habitat and Town).
